Last month, we were invited to talk to International Airport Review about the project and how its concept of operations (CONOPS) will lead aviation towards a more sustainable future.
The Consortium depicted the current aviation system highlighting the alarming rate of increase of CO2 and other emissions that are growing faster than the number of flights, over years in which the aviation stakeholders have made substantial efforts to bring down emissions through technological and operational effectiveness. A scenario even exasperated by the recent statements of the 6th Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Then AEON presented the project solution. A good opportunity to reduce the climate impact of aviation in the mid-term, while some other promising technologies, such as sustainable aviation fuels, will be more effective in the long run.
In a similar framework, the AEON CONOPS appears to be the next cutting-edge solution to decarbonize aviation ground operations.
