Among the different task forces launched by EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, one has been launched recently to take into account all recent ATC/ATM developments that can impact EUROCONTROL A-SMGCS Specifications.
The first meeting of the A-SMGCS TF took place in mid-November 2022. As a task force member, the Consortium had the opportunity to present the AEON concept of operations in front of a group of well-known players in the aviation domain. The insights on the impact of green taxiing on A-SMGCS were thoroughly presented and discussed.
AEON and the Advanced Surface Movement Guidance System (A-SMGCS)
The AEON project considers using the A-SMGCS to support ATC situation awareness. Additional vehicles on the ground, such as hybrid towing vehicles, may increase ATC workload and lower situation awareness towards all ground movements happening simultaneously. The AEON project focused on the introduction of several taxiing techniques that are currently technically mature but struggle to become available for daily activities due to operational constraints.
